ViBoot 2, an update of the original viBoot introduced in Macrium Reflect 6, enables users to create, start, and manage Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machines using previously created disk image files. The new version of the backup program comes with viBoot 2 integration. If you select commercial, you are required to register an account whereas home users don't. You may select commercial during installation of the program when the program prompts you to select the free edition license that you require. Deployment scenario, where Macrium Reflect is used to copy a 'golden image' to multiple PCs.Repair shop scenario, where Macrium Reflect is used to copy the contents of a hard disk to a new device. The company lists two specific scenarios in which a commercial license is not granted: ![]() Macrium notes that the license covers "making backups of single machines" that are "restored to the same PC (or a replacement PC in the case of hardware failure)". Rescue media needs to be created on the PC that is restored. The most surprising change is that the free edition is now licensed for commercial use under certain circumstances. Macrium Reflect 7 Free Edition comes with three major new features compared to previous versions of the backup software. Tip: Check out our overview of free drive backup programs for Windows. Existing users may get the new version this way as well. Macrium Reflect checks for new versions automatically once per day by default. Note that the download may exceed 800 Megabytes if you select to download the program with PE (Preinstallation environment) components. It is offered as a web installer that requires Internet access to download all program components to the local system. Backs up entire virtual machines (online/offline) hosted by Hyper-V (Windows, Linux, etc.The new version of the application can be downloaded from the developer website.Operates at the virtualization layer, employing MS VSS (Volume Shadow Copy Service) to agentlessly protect Hyper-V guests. To support external hosts with their guest machines, users are required to upgrade to Paragon Protect & Restore. Users also are presented with the option to retrieve certain files from virtual containers through Connect VD and File Transfer Wizard. In case of a disaster recovery, HDM 14 Hyper-V Preview enables businesses to restore a previously backed up virtual machine to a new location according to a certain time stamp (if several are available). Resulting virtual containers can be stored on a local disk (mounted/unmounted), a mapped network share, or by UNC path. If using pVHD, there will be available additional options, like high-level compression, encryption, or image splitting. If using VHD or VHDX as the target backup format, the user can attach the resulting backup image to an existing virtual machine of Hyper-V and the operating system will be launched successfully. ![]() Hyper-V guest machines can be backed up directly to pVHD (Paragon Virtual Hard Drive), VMDK, VHD, or VHDX virtual containers. Paragon Hard Disk Manager 14 Hyper-V Preview protects entire virtual machines (online or offline) registered on a local Hyper-V host, where the product is installed. Besides, there is no need to provide credentials for every guest to do backups. This approach significantly enhances the backup performance, while minimizing the load on target machines and the hypervisor during the process. Paragon’s tool does not require an agent on a target virtual machine to create its point-in-time copy, including its configuration, operating system, apps, etc. Unlike traditional backup tools, designed to work with physical machines, Paragon’s solution can operate at the virtualization layer, employing MS VSS (Volume Shadow Copy Service) to provide agentless backup and restore of any guest machine of Hyper-V.
